Grammar and Proofreading

No matter how good you are at what you do, documents with grammar mistakes will erode your corporate and personal credibility. This practical, fast-paced course teaches you what you need to know to write correctly every time.

Who Should Attend

This course will benefit anyone who writes regularly, needs a grammar refresher, or proofreads. It’s ideal for administrative assistants.

Participants learn how to

  • Avoid the most common grammar pitfalls, such as faulty parallel structure, subject-verb agreement and sentence fragments
  • Use punctuation correctly—apostrophes, commas, semi-colons, dashes and colons
  • Apply the rules of hyphenation
  • Capitalize correctly
  • Avoid mixing up words that sound alike and have different meanings
  • Use proofreaders’ marks
  • Proofread documents accurately

Our Approach

This course is interactive and practical. There is plenty of small- and large-group discussion, and very little lecturing. We recognize that participants learn by doing, and they do a lot in this course. Participants will have opportunities to revise about 70 sentences and proofread several documents we provide.

We also know that participants are sensitive about their writing skills—especially their grammar knowledge. We never put anyone on the spot or embarrass anyone. Our learners always feel safe.

Course Length and Size

This is a one-day course. We recommend classes of about twelve people. This encourages healthy group interaction and allows for individual coaching when necessary.
