Prepositions

Certain prepositions are conventionally used with certain words. It’s difficult to know which words belong together when English is your second language, but we find that even native speakers make mistakes sometimes.

See if you can choose the correct usage for each of these sentences:

1. Members are responsible to return/for returning weights after using them.
2. I intend on/intend to complete my MBA during the summer.
3. The restaurant down the street is superior to/than our cafeteria.
4. When you see Julia, try and/to persuade her to join us tonight at the opera.
5. This report is comprised of/comprises 5 sections.
6. I find the turquoise dress preferable than/to the black one.
7. Company policy prohibits you to/from revealing client information.
8. You are no different than/from me.
9. I’m looking forward to visiting/visiting with Senator Johnson.
